{Book Review:} Made to Last by Melissa Tagg

My Review:
A comical, cute, debut from Tagg!

I knew after I looked at the cover and read the blurb that Made to Last would be a read I'd enjoy. I was right! I easily entangled myself within Miranda's story. I loved how both she and Matthew's voices were down to earth and distinct. They read as real people. Imperfect people. People with troubles and struggles.

I loved the home-improvement TV show angle. It's unique, fresh, and it was really cool to read about. More than once I found time slipping past with ease while I read earnestly, and before I knew it, I was halfway through. Sadly this book didn't surprise me, but, the genre is "contemporary romance" and not "mystery" so I'll let it slide. ;-)

Tagg is one to watch in the future. I like her writing style and her spunky characters, especially Celine. I don't know why I adore side child characters, maybe it's their innocence, but Celine is absolutely wonderful. For those who are looking to read something different, then you need to try out Made to Last, it'll be worth it. I recommend to ages sixteen and older for readability and content.

Love's Awakening by Laura Frantz {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review:
A lovely addition to the series!

In Love's Awakening we are introduced to Eden and Silas's family, particularly their youngest, Ellie. Oh, they were one of my favorite couples last year and their story made my top twelve books of 2012. I couldn't wait to read more about them, particularly Ellie. She's sweet, though a bit naive at first, and she has a heart as big as her mother's. Since I am the oldest in my family, I have no idea what it is like to be the youngest, seeing it through Ellie's eyes was interesting. I loved watching her come into her own.

I confess, based on the back cover I was concerned Ellie's story would be more of a Romeo and Juliet retelling than it actually was. Thankfully, I never got that impression while I read. One of my favorite new characters has to be Chloe. She's full of energy and has a stubbornness that rivals the Ballantyne's. Her transformation was wonderful to read and I wish we could have seen more of her.

Love's Reckoning remains my favorite so far, but this one made a great sequel. There was a fabulous blend of drama, tension, and romance throughout the whole book. Frantz truly sent me back in time, thanks to the historical detail she slips into her novels. Her books have been a pleasure to read. I recommend to ages fifteen and up for both readability and content.

Rebellious Heart by Jody Hedlund

My Review:
Hedlund's best yet!

Rebellious Heart takes us back to 1760s, pre-revolution, Massachusetts. The colonies were just beginning to turn against the Crown. The timing in which I read this book is ironic. My family and I recently made a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, where we got a good sense of the era and what life was like during that time period. That being said, Hedlund did a great job bringing the era to life and staying true to the facts.

I loved Susanna and Ben. Susanna made such excellent progress from where she started. Even when she made, in my opinion, a stupid decision, I could see where she was coming from and I understood her motives. Hedlund did a fantastic job crafting both Susanna and Ben. They responded to situations not as I wanted them to, but as real people would.

This is definitely my favorite so far from Hedlund, and it will be keeping a permanent place on my shelf. There was a great balance of drama and romance, and I especially loved the author's note at the end, do not skip over it!! Those who love historical novels set in the pre-revolution/revolution era will enjoy this one. I recommend to ages 15 and up for readability and content.

The Invention of Sarah Cummings by Oliva Newport {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review:
A great conclusion to the trilogy!

I wasn't sure how I felt about Sarah being the main focus of the third book in this series, but I was impressed how Newport "reinvented" her character. This book is worth the read, especially if you thought Sarah acted like a brat in The Dilemma of Charlotte Farrow. I'm sad to read the last of the Banning family; however, I have enjoyed every page with them.

Sarah is not your average character. Especially in the 1890s. She aspires to be more than just a servant, she wants to be included in high society. She, for some reason, believes that living with fortune will bring her happiness. I liked the way Newport used certain things to turn her around and set her on the right path. I did feel like the ending was rushed, I would have been a little more satisfied had it been longer.

If you've kept up with the rest of the series, then I believe you'll enjoy this one. It can be read stand-alone, but I encourage you to pick up the previous books first. The Invention of Sarah Cummings is a great rainy-day afternoon read as you follow her antics balancing a double life. Reminiscent of Downton Abbey, fans of the Gilded Age will like the story.

{Book Review:} Swinging on a Star by Janice Thompson

My Review:
Nothing quite beats spending the afternoon with the Rossi family!

I promised myself that I would get my hands on the second book in the Weddings by Bella series shortly after I finished Icing on the Cake. Sure enough, last week I found a copy on sale! Cue big grin and fist pump. I finally found time to pick it up and once I was past the first page, I was swept away to Galveston again.

The Rossi family continues to make me laugh with their antics and banter. Bella may feel self-conscious about her family, but I love hanging out with them for a few hours. Thompson gives great examples of what love should be, something that certainly adds warmth to the novel. Added to that, Thompson weaves in faith and strong Christian women, ready to pray up a storm for anyone who needs it. All the characters, though flawed, come together to make a beautiful cast.

Simply put, you have to read a Weddings by Bella book to truly understand why I love it so much. There's humor, there's romance, and there is faith blended in a delightful combination. I highly recommend this book to rom-com lovers, but only if you read Fools Rush In first. ;) I can't wait to read It Had to Be You!

It was this morning, twelve years ago, that America experienced a terrible attack.

Hearts were shattered, a river of tears flowed, and America cried out in anguish.

Many questioned the reasons behind it and the simple answer is this: evil. Many shouted to the heavens asking God why, yet they heard no response. Why? Why did all those people have to die?

{Book Review:} Stranded by Dani Pettrey (Giveaway!!)

My Review:
A fantastic new release from Pettrey!

It seems like it was yesterday I was giddy over the release of Shattered, and now here we are with the release of Stranded, the third in the Alaskan Courage series. Is it just me, or do Dani's books get better with each release? I mean, I really enjoyed Submerged and Shattered was even better, but I think Stranded takes the cake...for the time being, that is. We still have two more books after all. ;-)

Darcy St. James is awesome, and not only because of her name. She takes her faith seriously when it comes to her journalism by setting boundaries she refuses to cross. I loved how unwilling she was to compromise her values for undercover work. While Bailey still holds my number one favorite heroine spot, Darcy did come so close to topping her. After the brief glimpses we got with Kayden and Jake, I have a strong suspicion Kayden will try fight her way to the top of my favorites too.

Ever since Submerged, I've been curious to get to know Gage. In short, he is a hurting man running from God. Nothing about his healing felt forced or rushed. In fact, the pace read right. Though at first his faith is lacking, he makes up for it with good character. I adore his relationship with his family and the seriousness with which he takes his job. I look forward to seeing more of he and Darcy in Dani's future books.

To finish up, this is a wonderful novel! I was constantly guessing, and though I had some things right in the end, I had others wrong. The heightened suspense in the final hundred pages, glued me to the story until the end. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for this amazing family. I'm eagerly looking forward to Silenced! I recommend Stranded to ages 16 and up for mention of sex trafficking.

Trapped by Irene Hannon {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review:
Another great suspense novel from Hannon!

I am really pleased with Trapped. In this series, it is my favorite thus far. As I probably already mentioned, the new Private Investigators point of view has been fascinating to read about. Hannon gets her research from real people, something that sets a realistic feel to all her suspense stories. This particular story has something of an edge to it, maybe because the entire novel takes place in such a short span of time, unlike its predecessor.

Laura and Dev are great leads, and they are good match for one another. We met Dev previously in Vanished, and even in the midst of Cal's story I liked his personality. Now, having gotten to know him a little better, I can say his character is admirable. I liked how Laura, without realizing it, challenged him to think. As a brief side note, a change I felt was brilliantly written is Darcy's, but I won't say more than that.

The best villains are the ones that tug on your compassion. The ones that were hurt at some point in their lives and instead of overcoming it they succumbed to their circumstances. This fact is what made Mark, the antagonist for Trapped, a fantastic villain. Don't misunderstand me- this guy is a psycho, but as a writer I admire the work Hannon put into crafting him.

All in all, this book is certainly in my top five of Hannon's suspense novels. Those familiar with her work will enjoy it. There is some violence, but descriptions are minor. I recommend to ages 16 and up.

Finding Balance // Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day is a fun weekend around our house because my birthday is on the third. It always sneaks up on me and then I find myself wondering where the past year has gone. 

Who knew so much could happen in a mere twelve months?

I've built friendships, made memories, I've cried, I've laughed, I've struggled, and I've grown. The journey I'm on will never be easy and in the past few months I have fought to find a balance between blogging, my college studies, my writing, and life. Some of you may have noticed my fluctuating presence but I assure you, I'm not going anywhere. 
Actually, you'll probably be seeing more posts in the next few months as my studies wrap up for the year and I have more time on my hands. In the meantime, I have been working hard to balance my responsibilities and I'd like to believe I'm almost there.
Finding balance with my time hasn't been easy, but I have discovered that for me it is essential. There is less, if any, stress involved and it is easier for me to relax and enjoy my family. I highly encourage anyone with a busy schedule to reflect on ways to enjoy life in the midst of the craziness.
It's hard to put into words all that I have learned, experienced, and so forth this past year. As I look toward this new year of growth, I am eager to see what God has in store.

The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate

My Review:
A compelling, heartfelt, story!

It's safe to say I have not read a book like this one ever before, and I mean that in the best way possible. Wingate shares with us two stories separated by time. She artfully weaves Iola Anne's story into Tandi's in an intriguing way that pulled me deeper within the pages. The use of letters and a prayer box is such a beautiful concept!

Before I ramble about Tandi, I want to focus on Iola for a moment. This woman is amazing, generous, and compassionate. Her heart is so big. She doesn't even judge or feel any kind of bitterness toward her neighbors for how they treat her. That is simply amazing. People like Iola in real life are few and far between. We as readers need to learn from this wonderful fictional lady.

As for Tandi... Wow. She's been through so much. She has this strength within her, that she doesn't realize is there. Her life is truly messed up, but as she meets her landlady, through her landlady's prayer boxes, she is slowly transformed from the inside out. I don't want to spill too much, but I like watching positive actions get positive results.

To conclude, The Prayer Box fell short of my expectations by a small amount. I requested this book without realizing it is geared for women a generation older than I. Nonetheless, I found it a good read and Wingate's writing is up to par in her latest release.

On Distant Shores by Sarah Sundin {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review:
Another fantastic WWII story from Sarah Sundin!

Georgie was a highlight in With Every Letter and I couldn't wait to learn more about her. I love her kind heart. Without it, she and Rose would have missed out on a great friendship with Mellie, who we met in the first book. Though she'd let other people make decisions for her all her life, Georgie found herself ready for a change.

There was a little overlap between the first and this one, but a very minor one at that, and it didn't affect Georgie's story at all. As always, Sundin's writing is excellent and smooth. The journeys she put these characters on were not easy. However, on the flip side, our journey isn't either. Watching Georgie and Hutch grow through the course of the story felt like the most natural thing. Nothing happened too fast or too slow.

It was effortless to get lost in the era and world Georgie and Hutch found themselves in. I love the WWII era. The relationships, the faith, the common hope for a better future. One of my favorite scenes is set on Christmas day with Georgie on a flight. She led the men in carols and Christmas cheer, despite the war going on around them. You don't see or hear things like that any more. The scene is a highlight for me. Speaking of highlights I'll note real quick that Lucia is a big one. I hope we see her again! She was absolutely adorable!

Previous fans of Sundin's work will not be disappointed by her latest release. I loved following Georgie and Hutch through their struggles and I loved diving into their worlds for a time. I look forward to getting to know Kay better in the next book. Perhaps I'll finally have my questions answered.

My Review:
A wonderful, whirlwind, of a story!

I was swept away into Chicago, 1871. We follow the story through the Great Fire and into the rebuilding of the city. I found myself fascinated by Mollie's watch company and how business, among other things, was conducted. Camden did fabulous with her research. The emotions Mollie and Zach experienced after the fire were the perfect amount, enough to be realistic but not too much  for the reader to lose interest.

There's nothing quite like getting lost in a historical setting and enjoying the characters, the conflict, and their personal journeys. Mollie truly felt real. She's level-headed, intelligent, and likable. She has her flaws, but she strives to do the right thing by her employees, most of whom are veterans from the Civil War.

Into the Whirlwind hosts many side characters, but I never felt there were too many or that they were imposing too much on Mollie. It's a hard balance but Camden pulled if off expertly. As for me, I liked Declan and Alice best and I'm hoping that maybe we'll see Declan again in a future book...?? ;) Ahem.

In sum, I believe Into the Whirlwind is my new favorite, of the works I've read, from Camden. I teared up more than once. There were many times I didn't know how things would work out. Times I had to set the book down and reflect on the characters, on the decisions they made. I would love to read about these characters again. The book was that enjoyable.

Icing on the Cake by Janice Thompson {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review:
Another great rom-com from Thompson!

This is an excellent addition to the Weddings by Design series, and a well written one at that. Not that Picture Perfect wasn't splendidly done, because it was. I just think Icing on the Cake is just that: the icing on the cake. Thompson brought to surface an issue that is scarcely written about in fiction: obesity. She handled it with grace and accuracy.

Nonetheless, it felt good to get to know such a beautiful character. I enjoyed Scarlet's presence in Hannah's story, but nothing could have thrilled me more than getting to know dear, sweet, funny Scarlet more. As with every character I grow fond of, I loved watching Scarlett blossom into the woman God made her to be, flaws and all. She changed for the better.

So far, there hasn't been a book written by Miss Thompson that I haven't liked. Time literally flies when I pick up one of her novels, in a very good way. I cannot express how much I enjoy her style, her characters, and her humor. I really need to go finish her Weddings by Bella series now...

My Review:
An exciting, 1930s mystery!

When I first heard about Rules of Murder I fell in love with the cover. The style and the font fit the story setting very well. But, as we all know, we cannot simply judge a book by its cover. I'm happy to say what I found inside the cute cover is a fabulous mystery that befuddled me further with every new clue. Though I will note with some pride I did see one of the twists coming... Ahem. Anyway.

Deering did her research well. Drew, Madeline, and Nick's accents, and even the way they talked, popped off the page. She crafted the setting very well, also bringing it off the page, reminiscent of Downton Abbey. I don't think she could have made the story feel any more real and for that, I praise her.

Drew and Madeline are positively adorable together. I loved the banter between them and between Drew and Nick. The three of them make up a great cast and I cannot wait to read more about them in the next novel Death by the Book!

If you enjoy mysteries or any of Agatha Christie's works (note: I have not read any of her novels) then I can guarantee you'll like this one. With an escalating mystery, true to the times characters, and a tangible setting, Deering's debut is one you won't want to miss. I recommend to 15+ for some minor violence surrounding a murder.

Welcome to Last Chance by Cathleen Armstrong {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review:
A good debut from Armstrong!

I love stories about small towns. They're attractive because of the close-knit family feel they bring, yet this attractive quality also repels many. Last Chance emanates warmth and kindness. Its residents share the love of Christ to any wanderers, especially people running from something, like Lainie. I loved how Lainie learned to appreciate people, despite their obvious flaws and imperfections.

The change in Lainie from her arrival at Last Chance to the final pages is subtle, though she certainly is different by the end. Personally, I wanted to see more of her internal transition. However, I liked Lainie's courage. As for other characters, Fayette and Elizabeth have left a permanent mark on my memory. Elizabeth's stubbornness and Fayette's determination combined to eventually straighten Lainie out.

I did not like how Armstrong never gave us a description of Ray. I thought he was some older man at first, but after Lainie began to have an interest in him, I decided he must be younger than I thought. If anything, it was a minor frustration for me. The ending felt a little rushed with no post-climax. I finished the book longing for a little more faith presented in the story; however, given Lainie isn't a Christian at the onset that's okay. Armstrong's writing is easy to read and keep up with, but this isn't a favorite. I do look forward to where she takes this series and with whom.

I'd recommend this book to older teens, due to minor adult content (drinking, Ray owns a bar, drug dealing and using are brought up once or twice.)

Why I'm Excited: I fell in love with Thompson's writing style with Picture Perfect. So naturally I'm excited for the sequel! I loved Scarlet in the first Weddings by Design series and I'm happy to get to read about her happily-ever-after.

Anomaly by Krista McGee {Litfuse Blog Tour!}

My Review:
Anomaly is captivating, intriguing, and absolutely awesome!

From the very first page I was entangled into Thalli's world. McGee writes in such a way that it's nearly impossible to set the book down. The State is an inventive creation and is distinct from the many dystopian novels out there. I can only imagine the amount of time McGee put into it but I can say that every moment spent shines through beautifully.

Thalli's voice is strong, unique, and her curiosity and her stubbornness endeared her to me. Thalli is simply fun to read about! Her budding confusion surrounding her encounters with Berk were amusing to read. I adored their friendship. In my opinion, friendship is a key element in a successful romance and McGee accomplishes just that.

To say the least, I'm just a tad excited for the next book, Luminary- which is too far off in the future! :-)  I don't read a lot of Young Adult (YA) fiction, primarily because I'm wary of the selection. I'm overjoyed to find authors like McGee and Williamson, who provide us with wholesome YA fiction. If you enjoyed The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins or Captives by Jill Williamson you will definitely enjoy this one.

{Book Review} Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

My Review:
Compelling, heart wrenching, and absolutely amazing!

Several blogging friends of mine had given this book four to five stars- certainly a high enough rating to pique my interest.  So when I given an opportunity to review it, I took the chance. After all, I thought, Francine Rivers is supposed to be a really great author right? No kidding! She's amazing. Her style, her research, the heart of the story, it's all beautiful.

Redeeming Love is, in a way, an 1850s retelling of Hosea and Gomer's love story with Rivers' own spin to it. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. My heart ached for Michael and at the same time I admired his strength and faith. One thing that began to get on my nerves after a while was all the names he called Angel: Amanda, Tirzah, Mara, Beloved, and when he was frustrated, Angel. Though it wasn't a big deal in the long run.

Rivers wrote Angel's character with perfection. Rivers presented her excellently, holding nothing back. There was never a moment that the word "unrealistic" came to mind. Angel's struggles were raw, real, and tangible. There's more I could say, but I do not want to spoil anything, so I'll close with this: Redeeming Love is a story of unconditional love, of heart break, and of redemption when it seems impossible. I highly recommend this book to mature readers.

My Review:
This is the best Biblical fiction novel I have read in a while!

From the very beginning I knew I was going to enjoy this book. I don't know if it was Sarah or the story that won me over but nonetheless, this book is going on my keeper shelf. I confess, it wasn't until I was half-way through the story that I realized Harvest of Gold is technically a sequel to Harvest of Rubies; however, Harvest of Gold can be read as a stand alone. I only felt confused twice.

Oh, mercy. I loved Darius. I loved Sarah. They are an awesome couple. Both characters are beautifully written and I thoroughly enjoyed their story. I loved how she portrayed Nehemiah, I thought she did an excellent job bringing to life the man God called to rebuild Jerusalem's walls. He wasn't perfect. He was concerned. But though everything, he trusted in God.

All in all, this is a marvelous tale! Afshar represents the time period well. I hold such a deep admiration of her characters and I can't wait to see what she releases next! In the meantime, I'll be tracking down a copy of Harvest of Rubies to read. I highly recommend this to those who enjoy Biblical fiction.

{Book Review} The Rose of Winslow Street by Elizabeth Camden

My Review:
A charming read!

I started this one a while ago and I am glad I had the time to go back and finish it. I have heard many good things about Camden's novels and I'm happy to report that The Rose of Winslow Street met my expectations. I was so enthralled in the story that time literally flew past as I was reading. The beautiful little town of Colden is idyllic.

There were many times I questioned how Camden would tie up all the strings. I wondered how two people could fall for each other in the midst of such hate. I didn't know how the story could end happily, and then... You'll have to read the book to find out. I'm duly impressed. I will definitely be looking into Camden's other books!

If you enjoy delightful romances with a high amount of conflict and impossibility, then you'll enjoy this one. As for content, I recommend 15 and up.

Dolled Up to Die by Lorena McCourtney {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review:
Another great mystery from McCourtney!

Cate Kincaid is back! She made a big impression in Dying to Read and I couldn't wait to see what adventures she'd tackle in Dolled Up to Die.  I love her spunk, her humor, and above all else her drive to find the answers. Also returning is Mitch, Cate's occasionally overprotective boyfriend, and Octavia, Cate's newly adopted deaf cat, who sometimes has better intuition than Cate.

I love it when I get the opportunity to review a mystery novel. In this whodunit, I was constantly guessing and never quite sure if I was right. The pacing was dead on, pun intended, and the stakes rose just when you thought they couldn't. Combine McCourtney's great sense of humor with her equally great mystery devices and you get a pleasure-filled afternoon with Cate.

If you enjoy whodunit mysteries, Dolled Up to Die is right up your alley. Aside from some minor, brief, adult humor the story is very clean and appropriate for 15+. I recommend this to anyone in need of a laugh while they try to solve the murder. :-)

Small Town Girl by Ann H. Gabhart {Revell Blog Tour!}

What an adorable story!

If anything is true, it's this: you can't judge an author by one book. In my case, I did not like Gabhart's Words Spoken True but I loved Small Town Girl. The WW2 setting, the sweet characters, and endearing love story all come together for a fantastic read. I loved how some of the character's accents popped off the page; it rounds the characters in a great way for me.

Kate is a great heroine. I haven't read Angel Sister, but it is very apparent what a great big sister she is, not to mention the deep affection she has for her little sister, Lorena. I was really proud of how Kate handled herself in some of the awkward situations she found herself. That being said, she does have flaws, but she has her faith.

One thing is for sure, Gabhart keeps you hanging on until the literal last page. Her writing style is smooth and her characters are so lovable! I wonder if she'll be writing a book for Lorena? Either way, I am very pleased I opted to review Small Town Girl. It's a great historical read with which to spend the afternoon.

Claudia, Wife of Pontius Pilate by Diana Wallis Taylor {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review: 
Several months ago, I reviewed Taylor's release Martha. I did not enjoy it as much as I expected to but I opted to give Taylor's latest, Claudia, Wife of Pontius Pilate, a fair shot.

I applaud Taylor for taking on such a difficult subject. As she mentions in her Author's Note, Claudia is only mentioned once possibly twice. Taylor's historical research shines through and she stayed close to the Gospel's account in most places. However, some of the creative licenses she took turned me off to the story. I won't go into it.

Judea, in the disciples' day, I think was represented well. It was neat to visualize what it was like and to form a mental image. I also thought it was neat to see what Jesus's ministry would have looked like to an outsider. That isn't a view I get to read often, and I an impressed at how real Taylor wrote it.

In truth, I felt like the book ran much longer than it should have. The last chapters were a drag with no clear direction as to where we were going. I really wanted to like this book, but it simply wasn't for me.

Book Review: Trouble in Store by Carol Cox

My Review:
Another amazing story from Carol Cox!

Carol did a great job pulling me right into the story with the first chapter. Melanie is such an easy character to like despite her stubbornness and slight impulsive behavior. Even though I knew misfortune would befall her early on, I still hurt right alongside her. I loved her desire to improve the mercantile; however, I'm not sure her methods were the proper way to get what she wanted. Ha! Ha!

Caleb is a fabulous hero! He's such a great father to his son, Levi, and does the best he can to also run a store single-handedly. I thought the transition from disliking Melanie to falling in love with her was well paced and realistic. I loved how protective he is. He and Melanie make a great couple.

I just studied this time period for my studies and I'm pleased to find little details in the story that I know I would have missed had I not studied this era. I also must admit I'm very impressed with how vivid the Arizona territory appeared in my mind's eye. Very beautiful, very rustic, very western. I truly enjoyed the mystery Carol implemented and I wish the book could have spanned longer. I hated seeing it come to an end!

My Review:
Not a favorite, but a sweet story nonetheless!

I wasn't sure what I expected to find in Slow Moon Rising but what I found certainly wasn't the picture in my head. I had to force myself through the first few chapters and I struggled getting into the story, particularly when we kept changing point of view every few chapters. While I'm glad to say it got easier to read as I went, I never fully connected with any of the women aside from Ami. She's my not-so-secret favorite.

I loved Eva's vivid descriptions and attention to detail in the setting. Anise's little hometown in Maine, Ami's world in Atlanta, and my favorite, Cedar Key, Florida came to life in my imagination. Eva also did a superb job making her characters as real as they come. Their struggles, their problems, and their lives are under no circumstances perfect.

Slow Moon Rising is the third and final in the Cedar Key series. I haven't read the earlier books yet, but it didn't seem to take away from the story.  If I had read the previous books, some things in the story might have made more sense.  I don't recommend this book to younger teens. This novel is definitely more on the adult woman's side of the spectrum--something I didn't know when I requested the book.

Deadly Devotion by Sandra Orchard {Revell Blog Tour!}

My Review:
A legitimate mystery that kept me guessing!

I always sing the praises of the books who surprise me. This is one of them! Sandra literally kept me on my toes until the last few chapters and for that, she has officially earned her place on my favorites list. Deadly Devotion opens up with a bang as Sandra introduces us to the fiery red-head Kate Adams. I love Sandra's writing style. It's easy to follow and keeps your eyes on the page.

Sandra did such a great job pointing the finger at many plausible characters. There were several times I thought I had figured it out, only to be proven wrong. It has been a long time since I've had the chance to review a mystery novel and I savored every page of this one, including the peek into Book 2!

All the characters are realistic, Port Aster easily formed in my imagination, and the whodunit mystery joined to make a wonderful read! I could tell Sandra did her research on medicinal and poisonous herbs. If you like mysteries, then this is one you'll love. I highly recommend to teens 15+.
